The Project

Canal Road House is a conceptual residential building, which was formed as a feasibility study to test the massing strategies, logic of circulation, and site responsiveness on a limited suburban site. The plan is made up of three related pavilions arranged around a central pool courtyard, a spatial plan that aims at maximising internal microclimates.

Through the application of curved wraps, screened facades, and taken roof terraces, a complex equilibrium involving occupation privacy, solar exposure, and unambiguous spatial hierarchy in a restricted footprint is reached by the design.

The Pavilion Expression

The street level exemplifies three major pavilion volumes that are defined by rounded and gentle corners and vertical screening. The base of the structure is a constant plinth of stone which is very strong and the interconnectors are recessed in order to define the circulation spines between the individual wings.

The use of fenestration is chosen to bring natural light and serious privacy needs into balance with the selective calibration, which leaves the restrained, professional, face with the residential scale and suburban context.
