Status
Concept Design
Location
Koh Samui, Surat Thani, Thailand
The Project
Samui Villas is a conceptual hillside residential site that had been developed as a result of intensive feasibility and massing research to overcome the challenges of the island topography. The space plan is organized into two main residential wings with a central suspended pool terrace, which is a spatial planning plan designed to ensure maximum panoramic views.
The design has been able to cope with the humid tropical weather and provides privacy to the occupants through the use of deep cantilevered overhangs, screened facades and high decking systems in order to frame wide views of the Koh Samui coastline.
The Structural & Environmental Expression
This perspective shows the massing and logic of structure of the project, which has a higher top pavilion that sits on a row of shaded open-air spaces. Main building mass Slender structural columns carry the primary pool deck and terraces supporting sheltered circulation and cross-ventilation beneath the main building mass.
The segmented architectural envelope is used as a high-performance skin, which specifically regulates the amount of solar exposure on the building as well as the visual continuity of interior living spaces with the tropical environment itself.
