The Project

The Samui One Villas, is an innovative hillside project that has been designed to be as seawardly oriented as it was feasible, climatically performing and structurally constructable. The architectural approach incorporates a sequence of layered bulks and huge cantilever roof overhangs and high performance glazing.

This plan allows passive solar shading and natural cross-ventilation and creates a continuity of space between the interior living areas and the tropical landscape.

Topographical & Environmental Logic

The oblique point of view demonstrates an elegant balance between the massive masonry and the light transparent objects. The stepped massing of the building is a direct reaction to the steepness of the site, as the topographical effect is reduced to a minimum, and the efficiency of the footprint is maximized.

Projecting roof planes and deep-set terraces are important filters of the environment and a source of the necessary weather protection and mitigation against the sun, which strengthens the logic of the project, responding to the climate, and its aesthetic integration into the tropical hillside environment.
