The Project

Wang Tan House is a private house in Mueang Chiang Mai that exists at the feasibility stage designed with a stringent procedure of massing and spatial optimization to respond to climate. The scheme makes use of a progression of balanced volumes stacked on top of one another with deep horizontal projections to create an accurate balance between solar control, natural cross-ventilation as well as visual transparency.

The layout creates a unified residential space by laying the main indoor and outdoor living areas around the center pool terrace that is environmentally resilient and spacious.

The Environmental Envelope

This side view shows the high-performance envelope of the project, with a heavy, stone-covered low mass, which is carrying a light, glazed upper pavilion. Constant perimeter balconies and broad roof planes are designed in such a way that they give significant shading against the sun and maintain clear views to the outside.

The pool deck is spectacular to act as climatic buffer to take advantage of the evaporative cooling to cool down the temperature between the interior living spaces and the landscaped context.
